I am perfectly aware that no matter what I write about the DTV sequel to Beverly Hills Chihuahua, parents will still pick up this film for their little ones.  Beverly Hills Chihuahua 2 is no better or worse than the first film.  What surprises me the most is that Disney did not opt to give BHC2 a theatrical release. Sure, this follow up does not have Jamie Lee Curtis, but I am sure that was not the reason why the first film was such a smash hit.  You still have George Lopez as Papi, and the kiddies love Papi.   I would like to think the main reason this film went direct-to-DVD is to show some mercy to the parents of the children that this movie was made for.  At least at home, the adults can go in another room while the kids are plopped down in front of the TV watching BHC2.

In this new film, Papi and Chloe are now married and have a litter of puppies of their own. When Papi’s human owner’s family are about to lose their house to the bank, Papi, Chloe, and friends decide to enter a doggie pageant to win a $50,000 prize that will save the home.

For me, sitting through Beverly Hills Chihuahua 2 was almost as painful as sitting through the first film. The one thing that made it only slightly better was how cute the puppies were. They were beyond adorable. They are much cuter than anything from the previous film.

BHC2 is perfectly harmless entertainment for children under the age of 6 and I would not expect my feelings on the movie would be the same as it’s intended demographic. If your family is a fan of the first movie, by all means pick up the sequel. If nobody in your family liked the first one, then stay clear of the second.

The blu-ray version of the movie does offer a beautiful picture, also included are extra features like an interactive game show and blooper reel.
